Catholic Cluster Sports Festival

On Thursday 4th July, the year 6 children of each Catholic primary school in Derby met up at St. Benedict’s for a festival of football and netball.

Nineteen children represented the school and took part in a sporting and positive manner. Although we didn’t win many games, the children were very supportive of each other and enjoyed the exercise in the sunshine.

Thank you to all of the children, staff and parents who came with us, as well as the year 10 children at St. Benedict’s who refereed and coached the teams. Thank you again to Mr Hughes for organising the event.

Y3/4 athletics

Sixteen of our year 3 and 4 children were chosen to represent St. Joseph’s in the first-ever Catholic cluster athletics festival, held at St. Benedict’s.

Unfortunately the rain meant that we couldn’t use the outdoor track and field so we moved into the sports hall. Mr Hughes and his year 10 children led us through a warm-up before beginning a long distance run called a bleep test. This was very tiring – ask any of the children what you have to do and you will understand why!

The children then moved onto a carousel activity, trying out the javelin and shot putt, as well as the long jump and triple jump. Finally the schools raced against each other in a very noisy relay.

Well done to all of the children who took part. The children from St. Joseph’s were perfectly behaved and showed great sportsmanship and effort throughout. Thank you for being so brilliant!

Thank you also to the other schools – St. Mary’s, St. Alban’s and St. Elizabeth’s – as well as Mr Hughes and his year 10 children.

RE Reading Day

All the children dressed up as a character or part of the Old Testament. Each class learnt one story and showed their understanding through music or art to other classes.

Thank You – from the Upper Juniors

Thank you to all of the parents of the children in the Upper Juniors who gave up their time to visit school on Wednesday afternoon. It was brilliant to see so many families in the classrooms and we hope you agree that the children did a great job in showcasing their learning. This was a lovely way to end our London topic and is certainly something we’d like to do again.

Thank you again.

A huge thank you to all who attended this morning’s procession in celebration of Our Lady. It was wonderful to see the church so full, and we hope you agree that the children did a fantastic job.

As you can see, each class now has their own blog which will be updated regularly. Here you will find photographs, stories, poetry, videos, audio recordings…everything we can possibly use to show what and how your children have been learning!

Some children will also be able to submit their own blog posts; please support them in this as it will help them in improving writing, reading and ICT skills!
