We have been using Twitter for around a year now and we hope it is proving useful.
We use the account to broadcast news, blogs and reminders about upcoming events to parents. We do not condone children being on Twitter – if we do find that any of our children are using the service, we will let parents know. From there, it is your decision.
We have also had great success in using Twitter to make contact with authors, directors and other schools around the world. The director of Sunshine on Leith popped by to leave a comment for one of the year 5 children, while authors such as Gill Lewis and Sally Grindley have left comments for our children thanks to Twitter.
This term, the Upper Juniors have been studying David Almond’s book, Skellig. He took the time to respond to one of our tweets below.
@StJosephsYear6 hello, and thank you for reading Skellig!

The children are finding that the world is bigger than they thought – they have been able to make contact (under teacher supervision) with lots of other classes and real people through its use. We hope it is just as useful to parents. Please follow us @StJosephsDerby.
